later on 9/26/13
Marvin weighs 1.5 pounds - approximately 1/15th of Pippin. His "kitten package" of vaccines, wellness visits etc cost 1.5 car payments. And his other kitten package will be snipped around Christmas. Gift certificates to the vet make a great holiday gift!

After bringing my little snugglypuss home again, I went out on a mission. I went up to the pottery place in Surprise to buy a chiminea (a Mexican clay outdoor fireplace). Amazingly cheap, amazingly heavy. I also had to go to Lowe's to get gravel to line the bottom with, and to QuikTrip to get firewood. So now I have an indoor gas fireplace, and an outdoor wood fireplace. Can't wait for it to get chilly enough to use both.

Work orientation is over - starting Saturday I'm on my own. I think I'll be OK.

Marvin is full of energy, which annoys Pippin (who is not so energetic, ever). This morning, at like 4.30am, Pippin hissed at Marvin for nibbling on her tail (not surprisingly), and Marvin responded by missing the litterbox in a very aromatic way. Today is our first vet appointment, at which we'll be making the appointment for declaw and de-testicle. He's adorable, but very, very excitable.

9/22/13
Happy first day of Autumn. And happy Mariano Rivera Day in the Bronx! What a great ceremony to honor Mo. I watched it all with the tissues at the ready.

First night of work went well, I liked everyone I worked with. I'm off this weekend - which I have spent (as predicted), sleeping or watching baseball.

I made Marvin's first vet appointment for Thursday. The woman I spoke to must be new, or hard of hearing. I said I could come in anytime on Wed, Thurs or Fri, and she said, "OK, I have something available for Monday." Um, no. Anyway.

It's supposed to be under 100 degrees all week. I have the AC off and the windows open (monsoon season is winding down, so I'm not too worried about blowing dust). The cats are loving it, especially Toby, who would live outside if I let her. I don't want to leave the back door open (for them to come and go from the yard) until Marvin's had his shots and gotten a litle bigger. Right now he's small enough that he could squeeze through the gaps near the gates.

9/18/13
I wish I could say I was doing exciting things, but I'm just being lazy. I finished my fulltime job, and start orienting on the unit at my new job on Friday. Marvin is doing well. I drove out to Tonopah (the next town over) and into the desert to find a Franciscan monastery full of nuns. Sounds like a bad movie plot, but it's true.

9/13/13
I escaped up to Oak Creek this week, to avoid the 9/11 news media and to just relax. The folks up there are amazing, not only did they let me bring Marvin, they upgraded me to a bigger room with no charge. I love it up there. I had grand plans to doing some hiking or just some scenic driving, but what I really wound up doing was soaking in the jacuzzi tub, walking down to the creek twice, and sleeping in the most comfortable bed ever. And snuggling Marvin. It was the perfect de-stress-or.

9/5/13
I survived the orientation day, it was a lot of paperwork and meeting department heads. Plus going over some of the computer charting. It's the same system that I (briefly) used in NJ, but they use so much more of the package here. That'll be the steepest learning curve, the actual patient care is the same.

My new work schedule - after the 24th, when I finish my orientation days), will have every other weekend off (yay!) and a two-day break and a three-day break in there. I'm going to talk to the current job's staffing lady about picking up some PRN shifts to fill in the gaps.

Kitty! His name is Marvin (as in Falsettos) and he's too cute. The others are soft of standoffish and hissy for now, hopefully that'll pass soon.

9/4/13
I went and filled out the HR paperwork today for my new job (tax stuff etc). Tomorrow I'm going for the day-long general orientation, so I'll be all ready to start my "on the floor" orientation when I finish up at my current job in two weeks.

Going up to Oak Creek next Wed-Fri to relax and celebrate not having to interview anymore.

Coworker Charlotte did the meanest thing. She brought home a five-week old kitten that needed a home. So now I have a five-week old kitten, a little boy. He's sequestered in the guest room for now, and I'll slowly introduce him to the other cats. I'm afraid Pippin might sit on him, he's so tiny.

9/3/13
Only 87 days til non-stop Christmas music. I found myself unexpectedly missing the cooler weather today. Don't worry, I poked myself in the eye with a sharp stick until the feeling passed.
