Botox and culture day. While I was downtown getting my frownie lines touched up, I texted Irene to see if she wanted to hit a museum or the botanical garden, since we both had time to kill today. It was a touch on the warm side for roaming around the garden, so we used a Groupon to go to the Heard Museum, the museum of Native American culture and history. Neither of us had been, and frankly I thought we'd be a little bored, but no! It was fascinating! The building itself is so stunningly laid out, and the exhibits were amazing. Definitely want to go back. Next month they open an exhibit on the Navajo Code Talkers.

And then - watched the DBacks get knocked out of the wild card race, and then met up with cousin Ken for a beer and pizza at a bar near the ballpark.

Tomorrow - back to work.

I would have written about the delicious sauerbraten that I had at Haus Murphy's (in Glendale) last night, when Irene and cousins Chris and Staycie and I went to dinner, but I was so full of good German food and beer that I fell asleep before I could type a word. But it was so good. And we had some giant pretzels as an appetizer. And good German beers. So good. Going back for OktoberFest next month.

Yay, it was 70 when I left work, and it's only supposed to hit a high of 97 today. A veritable cold front. So I turned off the AC and opened all the windows. The kittens are delighted, having never really been exposed to fresh air. Mimi is soaking it all up, and Pippin is pretending not to care.

And happy day-late birthday to the newest member of the Osterwind family - Melissa and Oliver welcomed Nicholas to their family last night. Can't wait to go baby snuggling in November. Up to Westchester to see the Osterwind crew, and then on to Massachusetts to see Jen and Sean and Audrey and Tristan!

9/24/12
Happy birthday, Dad!!

Kittens plus paper bag = hours of entertainment.

Our bi-weekly supervisor's meeting was canceled, but I went to Peoria anyway, to get my oil changed, see my MD, go to the post office and get my nails done. And now, vegging out to watch some baseball.

Today is three years of not-smoking.

The bullet has been bitten. Since the Book of Mormon tour isn't coming to Phoenix, I must go to LA to see it. And I am not fond of LA. But I'm combining it with a trip down to SD (that's San Diego, not South Dakota) to see the premiere of Allegiance, a musical about the Japanese internment camps, starring Lea Salonga and George Takei. Going to stay with my friend Peter, another NY-expat, who I've known for (jeez) almost 20 years. Anyway, going in mid-October.

Long - but productive - day. I was up at 6am for no good reason, and couldn't fall back asleep. So after tossing and turning for a while, I texted Irene to ask if 10am would be good for bringing all the IKEA stuff over. We got the curtain rods up, the IKEA bedframe assembled, and all of the bags with the dishes and stuff unpacked. Her apartment has fantastic cabinet space in the kitchen.

On the way to the ballpark we stopped at World Market, and picked up a coffee table and end table, from a line that's being discontinued and therefore severely on sale. Win.

Copper Blues, the downtown bar, had amazing cocktails and food, and a kickass happy hour. There will be return visits. The only drama was losing the car in the parking garage, but we eventually found it.

Can't believe it's a year since Grandma died.

In today's mail haul - Phoenix magazine, all about wine and beer. Please let them have the Orange Blossom beer. And Arizona Highways has the words "Sonoran Hot Dog" on the cover. Yum.

Update: a bar downtown, near the ballpark, has Orange Blossom on tap. I think this will be added to tomorrow night's ballgame plan.

9/12/12
IKEA! Successful apartment-warming shopping is complete! I have all the IKEA purchases in my car, and I'll bring them to Irene's new apartment on Friday when she gets the keys. So exciting.

Watching parts of the Met's Ring cycle on PBS. Still hate the set and Bryn Terfel's hair. But it looks and sounds so much better in HD.

9/10/12
I was going to get the oil changed after work today, but was too tired to wait around for it. And then I thought about tomorrow, but tomorrow is Media Avoidance Day, so I'll be coming home from work and going straight to bed. Maybe Wednesday.

9/7/12
I was partway productive today. My plan was to grab Irene and go to IKEA to celebrate her getting an apartment over in Arcadia, but I was up half the night with a sinus headache. So when she called (and woke me up!) at noon, I asked if we could reschedule for next week.

So then, I decided to spend the day on the couch watching Forrest Gump, which I did. I was going to watch all of the extras on the Blu-Ray discs, but since it's actually a rainy, gray day, I went to Lowe's instead to pick up plant trellises for my mystery climbing plants out back, and got them set up. Once it cools off some more, I'll clean up the backyard - put the kiddie pool away, fold up the tarps that blew all over the yard during the summer storms etc.

And now I am back to being unproductive, watching the Yankees game and then the DBacks game.

9/6/12
I am thoroughly political-conventioned out!

If I don't hit the highlights of the past week now, I never will! So tired.

Anyway, we went to the DBacks game Tuesday night, including a stop at the Arizona Baseball Club buffet restaurant that overlooks right field. Delicious. That was Tuesday. Wednesday, we had a relaxing morning at the spa in Peoria (massage, facial, blowdried hair), and then drove down to Casa Grande to see Mom's cousin Marie. We did dinner at Macayo's (best chimichanga ever). When we got back up to Phoenix, Michelle and Sean came over (baby Feeney is due in December, she looks fabulous). Thursday was tubing on the Salt River (many strong currents), and then Irene and I took a vacation-detour to go look at used cars for her (she got her license changed to AZ on Tuesday morning). Found one and made an appt to test-drive it on Friday afternoon. After that, we met up with Mom to do dinner at TGIFriday's. So good. Friday, I think we all slept in and did nothing in the morning, and I went with Irene to do the test drive (and she then bought the car). And then Mom and I went to Peoria to see The Will Rogers Follies at the dinner theatre (good production, better food). And Saturday we helped Irene pack up her stuff into her new car since she was heading to stay in Arcadia for the month. We drove downtown to the art museum and wandered for a bit, then got late-lunch at Windsor downtown (great cocktails). Sat night we stayed over at the Biltmore hotel, where we saw Gary Sinise and his band in concert - fantastic night. We of course also mananged to get in some pool time at the Biltmore.

And there, that was the quick recap of the past week! I dropped Mom off at the airport on Sunday morning and then came home to go to bed before getting back to work Sunday night.

Oh and ha - since Irene was in the guest room, I gave Mom my bed and stuck my queen-sized AeroBed in my master bathroom. There was plenty of room to spare. Love my giant bathroom.

9/3/12
Happy Labor Day. I'll recap Mom's fantastic trip as soon as I wake up. Which might be on Wednesday.
