I was relatively productive with my days off. Well, yesterday I pretty much slept and watched TV until I had to pop into work for an inservice about the new electronic medication administration system that we'll be implementing... on Friday. And today I was up at the crack of 6am (oh crazy night shifts, you throw me off), did the groceries, went to IKEA, browsed the Mexican pottery place near there, went to the Botanical Garden (when Michelle and Sean moved back east, they very kindly transferred their memberships to me and Irene), drove up to North Scottsdale to do some window shopping at very, very expensive furniture stores (I wanted to check out an Indian/Moroccan imports store I found online), dropped some clothes off at Goodwill, and came home to snuggle the kittens.

Hey, my house's windows have latches that let you only open them so far. Awesome. I had no idea.

Took the older cats to the vet today to get them microchipped (Marvin will get his when he gets neutered around Christmas). They handled it well, but Toby is hiding in the bathroom behind the toilet now. I think she's not happy with a kitten in the house or with being lugged to the vet.

Met my next-door neighbor tonight, in a roundabout way. Yesterday, as I was leaving for work, my back-alley neighbor stopped me to ask if I felt safe leaving my windows open and screens down when I wasn't home. I told her I was, it's a safe area, and I've never had any problems. So tonight, she comes over and asked if I'd heard that a neighbor was robbed during the day today. I hadn't, and before you know it, another neighbor was ringing my bell to ask if I'd heard. So long story short, my next-door neighbor came by and we had a mini neighborhood meeting in front of my house. Exchanged numbers and emails with her, and we'll get together one of these nights for a drink (when I'm not so tired). Working tomorrow night, but maybe Sat I'll go to Lowe's and get some locks for my yard gates (which are latched but unlocked).

Anyway, as Mom always put it, things can be replaced, people can't.

My (ex)coworker S. had an out-of-the-blue seizure last week, and wound up in the ICU. Long story short, she has a brain tumor. No kidding. They moved her to another hospital with a neuro dept, and they operated this morning. Prognosis: not good. I've been to visit twice and will go up again tomorrow to see how she's doing and see if I can help out at all. Her daughter has been keeping me updated - we're about the same age and S. always said we'd hit it off, but this is a lousy way to make friends. Anyway. Send warm thoughts.

The airfare for March has been managed. My car has been paid off three months early. I won $20 on a scratchoff. But despite all that luck, I still did not win the Mega Millions.

They have snow in Flagstaff - the first of the year. And it's a lovely 65 out right now, high of 70 today. I woke up last night to close all the windows because it was so windy that the dust was blowing heavily. I could smell it. I re-opened them this morning to get some cool air blowing.

Marvin is on kitty antibiotics for a poop bug. He just loves taking them (right). And I swear he's growing in his sleep!

Emma Thompson and Bryn Terfel in Sweeney Todd at the NY Philharmonic in March? Yes please! Mom and I bought tix for it already, now I just need to manage the airfare.

10/5/13
Work last night was surprisingly un-stressful. I do like it there, I just need to have enough hours to pay my bills, like the rest of the free world.

10/2/13
Canceled from work tonight due to low census. No bueno.

10/1/13
Government shutdown. I'd like to thank the Republican party for acting so bravely to save the American people from the tyranny of... affordable health insurance. You go with your bad self.

Drove up to Cave Creek today to buy eucalyptus and pinon firewood. Oh, it smells so good. Can't wait to have fires in the chiminea. It's been under 100 for the psat week; I already turned off the AC and opened all the windows. Last night I napped on the patio and then in the guest room and then in my bed. I do love the single life.
