10/31/12
Happy Halloween, except in NJ, where it's been postponed. Still no power/hot water across most of the state (Mom said she's going to Aunt Barbara's tomorrow to take the longest hot shower ever). I have never seen so many pictures of friends barbequeing in October to use up perishable meats etc.

I wasn't sure I'd be awake in time to greet trick-or-treaters, so I just set out a big bowl of candy. But I'm awake now.

Took advantage of a cheap Vegas hotel deal and am going to stay at the Palms for two nights the week before Christmas. My only regret (ha) is that I won't be there for their awesome Sunday brunch, but I have to go mid-week since I'm out of PTO time at work.

10/30/12
Wow. The pictures and video coming from NY/NJ are just crazy. I can't believe the damage. I talked to Dad before his power/phone went out, and talked to Mom at work last night (but her power/phone is out, too). I hope they and everyone else is OK.

Some pictures from the Times.

10/29/12
I am, of course, delighted that the Giants won the World Series.

But more importantly, I am so glad I left the east coast, with the coming of Frankenstorm - the hurricane/winter storm that's headed directly for Matawan. Seriously, look at the map, Matawan is in the center of it. The hurricane hasn't hit land yet, and there's already crazy flooding and the MTA is closed and Lower Manhattan is under a mandatory evacuation (which Dad has ignored) and the casinos in Atlantic City are closed... well, I just hope my family and friends stay safe and dry.

(and snow, did I mention there might be snow?)

10/26/12
There are some days when all I want to do is walk around IKEA. Today was one such day.

And the State Fair! There was sheep-snuggling, pigeon-mocking (seriously, in New York we call them, "flying rats," but out here people breed them for show), Ferris Wheel-riding, and fried food ogling (but not eating). Fun day all around. But I wore my new cowboy boots all day and now my feet are killing me. Time to go soak in the tub.

10/22/12
Yes, I will be rooting for the Giants in the World Series.

Horrible sleeping day, but I'll make it through the shift.

10/19/12
Irene and I were going to go to Haus Murphy's for OktoberFest tonight, but the thought of rich German food was a turnoff, so I asked if we could cancel. Instead, we put together the rest of her furniture (bookcase and table), picked out her future couch at Pruitt's (I swear, I like shopping for other people's stuff as much as I like shopping for my own), and headed to Scottsdale because I needed to redeem a "free hand lotion" thing at L'Occitane.

Well, since I hit Target and World Market before I met up with Irene, the daily retail therapy included:

I think that's it. Oh, and the free hand lotion.

10/18/12
I guess I'll be rooting for the National League team now.

10/17/12
So they postponed the Yankees/Tigers game because of "the threat of rain."

Sigh.

10/16/12
Happy Aaron Boone Day.

10/15/12
I have to admit, I enjoyed LA much more this time around. Maybe because I'm older, maybe because I stayed in a ritzier area. Who knows? Highlights included seeing all my LA friends (Peter, Dennis, Ally, Colette, Allen, and Alan-from-New-York), having super food, seeing two terrific shows (Book of Mormon and Allegiance), and climbing to the top of the Hollywood sign. In flipflops.

Glad to be back and in my own bed, tho. And I was pleasantly surprised (stunned, really) to find that not only did Irene mind the kitties and make sure Mimi got her thyroid medicine, but she cleaned my house! It's so clean!

Bad news tho - Yankees are down two games to none to the Tigers in the ALCS, and Derek Jeter broke his foot and is out for the rest of the season.

10/10/12
California, here I come.

10/8/12
What do you mean, I spoil my cats? Just because I bought them a new water fountain (when the old one broke) that cost more than... well, more than.

Working tonight, then I took off Tuesday so I can drive to LA on Wednesday and not be asleep at the wheel. The price of gas is a dollar higher a gallon in CA than it is here, so I'm totally going to fill up the tank in Quartzsite, on the border.

Oh and annoying thing - when I went to pay for the cat water fountain, I couldn't find my Visa card. Still can't find it. So I called to have it canceled and get a new one issued. Bummer, because I had that number memorized. Luckily there were no charges on it that I didn't make. With my luck, they'll send the new one and then I'll find the old one.

10/5/12
I am not in favor of this "extra wild card game" thing. Not at all.

Today was roadtrip day. Irene and I took the drive through the Apache Trail out to Roosevelt Dam, with a stop at Goldfield Ghost Town on the way. You can technically do this drive in about five hours, but we took about ten, since we stopped for breakfast, lunch, and lots of photos. Such a beautiful day - not hot, not humid, perfect blue skies and no traffic. Lovely.

10/3/12
Wait, let me put on my shocked face - the Yankees won the AL East. Actually, it was a close race all season, with the Orioles (I know!) making a good show of it. Now, on to playoff baseball. And don't feel bad for us in AZ, we have the Fall League starting up next week.

Turned off the AC and opened the windows (again) - I think it's safe to leave them open from now on.

I also taped the debate on CNN, but I'll probably just watch the highlights on the news later.

10/2/12
It's such a nice morning, I think I'll take a walk. And by walk, I mean nap.

It's supposed to cool off this week, and by cool off, I mean stay under 100 all day. Yay!
