In my efforts to adopt out the kitties I rescue, I reached out to Lilia, who runs BARK - the rescue in Buckeye. She has terrific connections and a high success rate in finding homes for kitties. So I'm doing a trial run with her. She manages the "cat condo" at PetSmart, so I brought Abby, Grace, and Cricket down and we set them up in the penthouse (ha). It's a very nice setup there. I feel nervous because I've never voluntarily let my kitties go, but hopeful that if we can find them homes, I'll be more able to rescue cats that need my help.

I had such a great time back east. Between the salmon we had Wednesday night, and the turkey fest on Thanksgiving, I'll never eat again. And the pie! Mom made the apple pie this year, and my theory was that since we always had leftovers, there was no reason not to taste-test it Wednesday night. I also found a recipe online for mashed potato-bacon-cheese-onion balls, so we made those to go with the salmon. Absolutely a winner.

We also did a lot of walking in the city - around the Cloisters, and then with Tesse around Harlem and environs. Made it to the Bryant Park holiday bazaar, and to see Falsettos, a show I've adored for 25 years.

I taught an actual class yesterday! And I didn't collapse from nerves. My boss asked me if I would spend the day teaching the new hires about our electronic charting/medical records program. I happen to love the program and helped roll it out facility-wide last year, and I'm really good at using it as a nurse and as a manager. I remembered as I started the class that I can talk FOR HOURS about things I love. I had some good feedback from the nurses in the class, and my boss wants me to do it again for the next round of hires.

But I will not be doing anything next week at work, because I am officially on vacation! I need to pack - flying to NJ/NY/PA on Monday. I booked the plane tickets before my work schedule changed. The ticket was so inexpensive, that it would cost twice as much to change the dates or to even buy a whole new ticket and spend more time back East. But that's OK - I'll have five days out there and I'm really looking forward to it! It's supposed to rain every day I'm there, no joke.

Eve and I had a very Jersey night out. We went to the tattoo parlor (safety pin for me, semi-colon for her), then to the diner, and then just vegged out at her place for a while. Needed that.

At least my stomach is happy - I finally stopped at the Phoenix location of El Guero Canelo and get some Sonoran hot dogs for lunch. Much easier than driving to Tucson and just as delicious. Don't know what took me so long.

Time to curl up on the couch with my Kindle.

My friend Melanee and I ran the "Crazy for Cats" table at the Community Paws fundraiser today. Absolutely gorgeous day, sunny with a nice breeze, and we had a good time. It was great to see so many people out with their dogs, and of course to see our cat lady friends.

There's a group of tween girls in Verrado who rescued an abandoned kitten last week, so they called Sarah at Community Paws, who called me. So I picked up this totally adorable calico kitten and found her a home in less than 24 hours. Felt good.

The election - and the entire campaign season - was a blessing in that it showed people's true colors. I cannot continue to have people around me who support a political party that opposes everything I represent. I'm tired.

11/8/16
Volunteering was pretty awesome, I will totally do that again. Low-stress, probably because we're out in the sticks, and it's a small precinct. And now, I'm going to curl up with CNN and a stiff drink.

11/2/16
The calendar turned over to November, and the temperature is finally staying under 90. I think Summer is over, knock on wood. I booked a three-day weekend stay up in Oak Creek Canyon for Christmas weekend. I want to curl up in their giant hammock overlooking the creek, wrapped in a blanket with my Kindle. If it's less than 70 degrees tho, I'll last about five minutes before I need to go find the fireplace and some hot chocolate.

Game Seven tonight - it'll be a historic night for whichever team wins, and honestly I don't have much of an opinion on it.

I talked to the volunteer wranglers for Election Day (I volunteered to be a poll helper, directing traffic etc). I signed up for a four-hour shift on Tuesday, at my local polling place (the Buckeye Union high school). Training class is on Friday evening, and then Monday I have to pop downtown to pick up my volunteer packet. And tonight I'm stuffing folders for the upcoming Community Paws event, which is on the 12th. I'm really looking forward to being the cat lady.
