OK, still warm out. I drove home from class with the top down on my car. Now that was lovely. And tomorrow is December - what's wrong with this picture?
IV class was a lot of fun - the teacher really made fluids and electrolytes interesting. As "homework," we have to come back tomorrow with our faux IV dressing (applied by our parter in class) intact on our skin. Sort of a "see how the patient feels" assignment. If we're still wearing it, there's an extra two points on the test! I plan to trade those two points for one of the math questions that I know I'm going to bomb. I'm good with med math of the "how many of these pills equal this dose" kind of question, but my brain shuts down when it's the "figure out how many ml's per hour constitute this dose" kind. And since this is all IV meds, those are the questions!
Tonight's viewing entertainment: March of the Penguins. I picked up the DVD yesterday. Those little buggers are adorable.
Thank god it's going to get colder out starting tomorrow. Today was 61 degrees - not at all November weather! Tomorrow and Thursday I have IV Therapy class, and then Friday I'm off. Hopefully my schedule and Jim's will mesh so we can go out on Thurs night - he's back from Texas and I've missed him.
I'm not going to work tomorrow, so no overtime, but yes sleep. I need it - worked 3-11 today and I'm just worn out! Bed, here I come.
I never met Tesse's friend Damien, who suffered from a rare cancer, but he died today. My heart goes out to Tesse and their other friends.
Happy Thanksgiving! In lieu of an actual Thanksgiving dinner, I had some of coworker G's delicious spanish rice and chicken, and some cookies that a resident's son brought in. They did serve lunch for the employees, but the timing was off - I had just eaten the rice! Mom has promised to bring home leftovers from Aunt Barbara's for me.
Since I have no weekend date plans, I'm going to pick up some overtime and work on Sunday. I think I get my next month's schedule on Monday, so I'll know when my free time in December is. I told them I can work Christmas (which is on my scheduled weekend to be off), but I want to be off for New Year's, so we'll see how that works out.
So we're supposed to get a snow flurry tonight. I went to Lowe's and bought a snowblower. Just in case. And because honestly, I do not want to have to get up at 5am to shovel out the driveway when the real snow comes. The Matawan public works department does a great job of plowing the roads when it snows, but unfortunately they tend to plow Broad Street right into our driveway. Usually right after Mom and I have shoveled it out. So this year, we are prepared. We are also $350 poorer, but whatever, we're saving back strain.
I also hit the mall for some more holiday shopping. Found jeans at Old Navy that fit (yeah, I went up a size, sue me, I'm an 8 now) - and now I have all of the latest gifts wrapped and am ready to tackle the winter chore of cleaning out my closet. I told Tesse she could have all of the skirts etc that I've outgrown. Hopefully I'll make some headway in clearing space in my closet tonight.
Ooh, I also decided against repairing the zipper on my old pair of black boots, which broke last week, in favor of buying a new, sexy pair. And since the shoe store was having a buy-one-pair, get-another-half-price sale, I picked up a sassy pair of black heels that I can't wait to wear out.
Tomorrow begins the other dreaded year-end task of transcribing last year's calendar into next year's calendar - all the birthdays and such. Maybe I'll put it off another week or so.
later on 11/22/05
The Ziegfeld - now THAT'S a place to see a movie! Time for sleep.
Woman in White and Rent movie tonight - I can't wait to see the movie again, but with more of my friends this time. I'm really bummed that Jen is up in MA but it's the middle of the week, I'm surprised that so many people are coming as it is. Also bummed that I have to get up and work the day shift tomorrow. But I figure if the movie is done by 2am, I'll be home by 3.30am, what with getting the car from the garage and dropping Tesse off. And after tonight, no more late nights when I have to get up at 6.30am for work!
It's pouring rain like crazy today. I went down to get the laundry from the dryer and ended up visiting what we like to call the underground lake. No phantom living there, just lots of small puddles in the basement.
(sweet update: They just called and asked if I could work 3-11 on Saturday in exchange for tomorrow off. It didn't take long for me to say, "yes")
I am so glad that I'm off tomorrow. We stayed up later than expected at Liz's, so I stayed the night at Missy's (new kitten Penny is adorable and orange). That was super except for the bit about having to get up at 5am to drive home and go to work. But I made it. And now I'm home. And I think I'm going to sleep until tomorrow night.
Bummer tho - since I'm off orientation, I can't work 3-11 on Wednesday like I'd wanted to (since the Rent midnight showing is tomorrow night) - so I'll have another night of not enough sleep. But I can get lots of sleep in advance tomorrow to prepare.
Perhaps it was the threat of wearing the air cast, but my heel is acting fine today. Not much pain at all. Last night Uncle Charlie and Aunt Joan came over for dinner - antipasto followed by Swedish meatballs, very cultured food (and by cultured I do not mean moldy). I was so tired tho that I fell asleep before dessert.
First day off of orientation and on my own - I think it went well!
I'm pretty damn happy. And now I'm off to Liz's housewarming (er, apartmentwarming) party.
Starting Sunday, I'm off orientation and onto the rest of my 90-day probation period. Yay!
Mom bought eggnog. It's so fattening, but as she put it, "It's only one glass."
Harry Potter, here I come.
Heel? Still really hurting. I have to force myself to roll my foot when I'm walking. And even with it all wrapped up tight, it still hurts any time I put weight on it. Man, I wish my health insurance kicked in earlier.
I like the night shift. I really do. It's full of paperwork, which I love.
The Onion strikes again: Mia Hamm Declines Third-Year Option on Nomar Garciaparra.
My left heel/achilles tendon is still stiff and painful.

Found $40 in the back pocket of my scrub pants when I was getting dressed. It's screaming, "take me to AC!" but alas, I am ignoring the plea.
You all suck. I went to The Producers screening alone.
Ow ow ow, woke up with my left ankle (the one that I had the two surgeries on, and that swelled up before my and Jen's trip to England) stiff and in pain. It hurts to put weight on it. I stopped and picked up some generic Naproxen and an ankle brace (so I don't have to ACE wrap it) and it had better help. Also went to the post office and to have the oil change/fuel injected/wipers changed etc. The car was sounding sludgy. Can you tell today is errands day? I'm working the overnight shift tonight, so I did all of the errands and I'll take a nap this evening before going in to work at 11pm.
I am loving the online bill pay from Bank of America. My life is simplified.
And - best news of all - Tanyon is coming back!! That thrills me, and makes my and Miss's season tickets even more exciting, as if we needed something else to look forward to in the spring.
later on 11/14/05
I felt really good at work today, and 3-11 wasn't too bad at all! I DO have to be back there at 7am tho, but then I'm off until the overnight shift on Wed night, so that'll be nice.
I'm going to a screening of The Producers movie tomorrow - what is it with me and free screenings this week? Love it.
I had a fantastic weekend, and to top it off, I'm working 3-11 today, so I got to sleep late. It doesn't get any better.
It could, however, get a lot worse - I have to ace my next med pass at work or I won't be working. I thought I was doing everything well, but it's not well enough. Must hunker down.
(more good news: A-Rod, MVP)

Two words: Bring tissues.
Rent screening tonight - can't wait!
Two more weeks of orientation at work, which is great, because I'm still feeling my way with a lot of the paperwork etc, so that'll be good.
It's always bad news/good news with me. I cancelled on seeing Sweeney Todd tonight because I am just too tired.
But the good news piles up - I'm going to a screening of the Rent movie tomorrow! Can't wait! And I bought the new Neil Diamond CD today - he was on The View, and I got to see just that part of the show at work. Ahh, how lovely to have a TV in our dayroom.
I voted. Did you? I had three things on my to-do list today: vote, go to Wal-Mart, and go to the post office. Well, one out of three ain't bad, that makes me a .333 task-accomplisher.
Bartolo Colon (LAA) won the AL Cy Young award. That's just depressing. And Tino isn't coming back next season. The Yankees have to decide by the 15th if they're bringing Tanyon back or buying him out. Fingers crossed.
Well, I didn't know that last night's Lea Salonga concert started at 7 - I thought it was 8! So I was a little late, getting there in the middle of her first song. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Trisha, Ngoc, her sister Thuy and I were up the nosebleed seats, but it was OK, the acoustics in Carnegie Hall are fantastic no matter where you sit. Lea sounded great, and she duetted with Liz Callaway on "I Still Believe," which was the highlight of the evening for me.
Melissa found a little brother/sister for Marius. Very comforting.
There was a tornado in Indiana, and there are riots in Paris? Man, I have got to stay awake more and watch the news. I have no idea what's going on in the world.
Marie is an evil, evil person. She sent me a package with a terrific book about Judaism in Ireland, but she also included a delicious box of irish chocolates, which I am working on finishing right now. She's so evil. But I adore it.
Tomorrow is my day off this week. I am sleeping. All day.
Great weekend at work, I really like it there. Quick trip today to AC (where I didn't win big, quel surprise). Tomorrow is work and then I'm seeing Lea Salonga at Carnegie Hall, followed by Marie's I'm sure, since I'm off Tuesday and can sleep all day. And will.
It's a busy theatre week (benefit of working days is that I can actually see things during the week, if I'm awake) - tomorrow is Lea, Wednesday is Sweeney again, and then Saturday is the doubleheader of Souvenir and Hamlet for the second time.
Mmm, Neil Diamond has not one, but two Christmas albums out. They are mine. Bad Jew. But hey, he's Jewish, too, so it's not all that bad. Unfortunately, his "national tour" is only going to be in AC this time around, and it's on a weekend that I'm working. I'm not sure I can do work, then drive down, see a concert and swoon, and then drive back and have to be at work the next morning. And yes, this distresses me.
OK, I'm back.
It's fantastically warm out, I'm loving my non-stressful job, and life is good.
Hamlet was fantastic! My friend Ben went with me, and he enjoyed it, too. I'm seeing it again next Saturday night, and can't wait. Mmm, Cumpsty.
Hey, I'm still pretty happy, that's really cool. And I got free tickets to see Michael Cumpsty's Hamlet tomorrow night. I'm liking the day shift a bit more, except for that initial getting out of bed hurdle. Other than that, the time passes quickly, I'm home at 3.30pm, and I can still go and do lots of theatre. And free is good. Free Cumpsty is better. And free Cumpsty in Hamlet is to die for!
Things on the holiday wish-list this year: snowblower. If I'm working days, I am NOT getting up at 5am to shovel out the car.
I finished reading Ball Four - now I want to pick up the sequel. It seems like rather tame stuff that he talks about, but I can imagine it made quite a stir when it was published, as one of the first tell-all books about the inside world of sports.
You know what they say about the best laid plans and all... today was like that. It turns out that TDF mailed me the tix to The Color Purple, but me, not looking for them in the mail, threw them out. So I emailed TDF and they said I was SOL, but if they came in the mail after today to let them know and they would give a refund. I called Mom, and voila, they were in the trash. But since I was in the city and the tix were in NJ... out of luck. So Missy and I changed our plans and saw Dirty Rotten Scoundrels tonight instead.
The Elvis Costello concert last night was fantastic! Best of all, Keith and Ngoc were there and they had two spare afterparty passes for me and Miss. So we got to hang with the cool kids last night and enjoy some fine free wine and food. And I met Elvis! He's very cool in person, as well as a fantastic performer. Saw my old friend Jim (keyboard player and musical director extraordinaire) there, too - single again, looking as shaggily cute as ever, and we made plans to go out when he's back from LA in two weeks. Go me! He told me how great I looked, and he must have meant it because I was in scrubs which are nice and baggy.
And Derek Jeter won the Gold Glove this season - what more could a girl ask for?
