Olympics! I am totally an every-four-years fan, which is fine. I'm setting the DVR for the opening ceremony so I can watch it after the game tonight. Meeting Irene for the new Batman movie after lunch, and then going to the game with my AZ family.

I'm stopping Mimi's thyroid med - she hates taking it and I hate chasing her down for it. I'd rather not have a stressful time with her (what with her being almost 16).

7/24/12
Yay! Tesse's coming out in August, the week before Mom. Can't wait to see her!

7/23/12
Ichiro to the Yankees? Really?

7/22/12
Holy haboob, Batman! I drove through the massive dust storm last night on my way to work. It was amazing to watch this giant cloud roll over the horizon. Driving through it was like being in a blizzard, except that the low-visibility period was much shorter (and it wasn't cold, so really, nothing like a blizzard at all).

Other notes from our awesome trip:

7/20/12
I swear, the kittens have gotten bigger in the four days I was gone!

Irene and I had a fantastic time on the wedding roadtrip - only marred by the news of the shooting in Aurora, CO (the town where bride Erin lives, she's on a river trip now, hope her friends are all OK).

We drove through every scenic spot between here and Fruita, CO. On Monday, we drove up to Flagstaff, stopping off in Sedona on the way up for dinner at the Oak Creek Brewery. Tuesday was a day of driving, we eventually made it to Moab, UT, stopping at the Grand Canyon (god bless my National Parks pass) and Monument Valley on the way. The unpaved road in MV seemed even bumpier than when I was there last year, if that's possible. Still looks like something the aliens set down on this planet.

I was in Moab briefly about 18 years ago, and I don't remember a thing about that trip. This time I soaked it in. Beautiful town, and a jumping off point for all kinds of outdoor activities - biking, off-road trips, river trips etc. We stuck to the "driving around and looking at things" bit, with a little bit of "walking around" thrown in. We spent Wednesday sleeping late (to recover from the crazy amounts of driving) and then visited Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. While Arches was lovely, Canyonlands was absolutely stunning. Much less-visited than the Grand Canyon, and so much more vast.

Southern Utah in general was beautiful driving country.

The guy at the motel recommended driving along the River Road to get to CO, said road being a windy, twisty path through giant red rocks, right along the banks of the Colorado River. We made it to the wedding in plenty of time, and it was so good to see Erin (And meet Mike!). It was such a fun time, very laid-back, with delicious BBQ brisket and picnic goods to eat after the ceremony. Drove back to Moab (in the rain), and went to see Magic Mike at the movies (skip it) before hitting the Moab Brewery for a late dinner.

And today was the long long long driving day - if you go directly from Moab to Phoenix, it's about nine hours. We took thirteen because we went home via Antelope Canyon in Page (breathtaking) - where, go figure, it started pouring rain right at the end of our tour. That's OK, by the time we got back on the highway, it stopped, and we made excellent time.

So happy that we got to share Erin's special day, and so happy that we got to see some of the most beautiful parts of the southwest.

7/15/12
Don't know if it's the humidity or the dust or I'm just coming down with a cold (lousy timing if it is), but I could not stop blowing my nose last night at work. I never leave the building on my break, but last night I had to make a 2am CVS run to get some Sudafed (and get carded for it, too). It hasn't helped much, which is distressing.

7/13/12
It's raining in Chicago, which is interfering with my plan to watch the Cubs/DBacks game. Go figure. It'll probably be raining in NY later on, too.

I worked out the mileage for the roadtrip - home to Flagstaff: 165 miles. Flagstaff to Grand Canyon: 80 miles. GC to Monument Valley: 176 miles. MV to Moab: 148 miles. Then over to Erin's wedding in CO is another 101 miles each way, and then back from Moab to home is 486 miles. That'll be the long stretch.

I made a trip to Target (always dangerous) and World Market (somewhat dangerous, this time I wound up with a chest of drawers that was exactly what I wanted for the bedroom). So glad it's payday.

7/12/12
Woke up at 11pm when a kitten stepped on my head, and then discovered that we were in the midst of a super monsoon thunderstorm. I sat out on the porch and just watched the lightning show. Out here I look forward to the rain, instead of dreading it.

I managed to do everything on my to-do list today, I am quite proud. Got my nails and brows done, did my grocery shopping, went to the supervisor meeting, went to my chiropractor for a covered-by-insurance massage, got the oil changed in preparation for next week's roadtrip, met Irene for dinner, and went to the Desert Botanical Garden for their "flashlight tour". It was lovely to be there when the sun was setting, and it wasn't a zillion degrees, and there was a nice breeze (heralding the arrival of more rain, no doubt, as it was lightning-ing and thunder-ing all the drive home).

7/11/12
So last night during the game, I started to get a sore throat. Woke up in the middle of the night with it hurting so much it was painful to swallow. Luckily, I have lozenges and throat spray, and hot apple cider. I hope it clears up.

I've got nothing planned for today (tomorrow is my "run around like crazy" day), so I'm relaxing with a face masque from LUSH. Then I'll figure out what to do.

later on 7/10/12
I'll be honest, that game sucked.

7/10/12
Tonight is the All Star Game (I took off from work so I can watch it) - pizza and beer for dinner!

7/6/12
What a fun day of doing nothing - yet, so tired! We went tubing down the Salt River, which was more fun this time because we didn't overpack and knew what to expect. Totally a fun, relaxing time. Hopefully, I will not wake up tomorrow with a sunburn, I was spraying the sunscreen like mad.

My season ticket rep, Chris, gave me a pair of upgraded seats for tonight's game - ten rows behind home plate! I wish all my seats were so good (not that mine are bad, mine are pretty good actually). This is something the Yankees would never do. Dinner was chicken tenders and fries and a gigantic Bud Light. And two Tylenol to combat the sun and the beer.

Life is good.

Oh, and the Yankees beat the Red Sox, so life is as expected.

Can't believe it's almost the All-Star Break.

7/5/12
Once again, the sleep demon of the night shift compelled me to leave the game before the fireworks, fall asleep on the couch, wake up at 1am and start watching the Yankees game, take an Ambien at 4am, and be sitting here at 9am, already having emptied the kiddie pool and had breakfast. Waiting on Irene to tell me she's alive and awake so I can pack the car for tubing.

I read a blurb about a children's book where the premise was that dinosaurs didn't die out, but rather evolved and mutated into the heavy construction equipment you see today. It actually freaked me out to think about it. But anyway, if it's true, the dinosaurs have started digging up the lot next door to start laying the pipes and the foundation.

Claire's ears are all crusty (but with white crusty stuff, not the icky black stuff she had before). Gonna find some kittycat earwash at the pet store and see if that helps.

7/2/12
Love the Botox. No wrinkly face.

It rained for about two minutes this morning. It was thrilling. We're actually supposed to get some thunderstorms tomorrow or Wednesday, just in time for the fireworks. I'm going to the game Wednesday night, and maybe I'll actually stay to watch the end!
