I've stepped up the cat rescue game - turns out my coworker's property is home to a somewhat-feral colony. So I met with his mother, who's also a cat lover and committed to rescuing and speutering the crew. So I brought my humane traps up, and we made a plan. Since they're right near work, I found a clinic also near work that specializes in low-cost spay and neuter services. They're wonderful. The first batch of kitties was rough because I wasn't sure of how to schedule things with the clinic, but I think we've got it now. So far we've trapped eight cats at the colony, and six have been fixed. The other two are social but shy, so they're chilling with me until Monday. Two of the others are social butterflies (and sisters!) who appear to have been abandoned, not feral at all. They were spayed yesterday. Those four will go to BARK rescue here in Buckeye to find their forever homes. The other four are feral, so they've been released back to the colony area.

It feels so productive to be DOING something, and big thanks to the Katz Dog Wellness Clinic for helping me coordinate the TNR (trap neuter return) effort. My trapping partner introduced me to her neighbor, who also has a feral colony near her property. So next week we're going to start trapping there and hopefully we can get the population under control and stop the males from spraying everywhere.

On a related note, the carpet in my bedroom and the guest bedroom has become a mess over the past five years. I'm planning to tear it up and have tile installed. Gonna go to Lowe's tomorrow and get some estimates.

Happy birthday to my brother Pete! You'll never be as old as me.

It's Super Bowl Sunday and I don't have to work! I have brisket in the oven and a complete lack of interest in the game - but, since I cannot in good faith root for any New England team, will half-heartedly cheer for the Falcons.

Full house again here - one rescued calico who was found here in Verrado, one rescued dilute tabby who my coworker found in Peoria, and one skinny kitten from Lilia at BARK who needs fattening up. They all need forever homes. Lilia generously passed on to me a car-full of donated wet food, which is making my kitties and my wallet happy.
