12/30/12
I didn't love the movie. Best part was when the projector went out and they gave everyone a free pass to come back and see something else. We did get to (eventually) see the entire thing of Les Mis, but like I said, I did not love it.

No snow here.

12/26/12
Date canceled, he said he met someone else. Will take self to movies.

12/25/12
Merry Christmas, you old Building and Loan. The kittens enjoyed playing with the wrapping paper from the goodies under the tree.

I hear the Grand Canyon has a foot or so of snow. If I can find warm socks, I might take a trip up there this week or next. I bet it's beautiful.

I have a date tomorrow night, with someone I've been emailing on match.com - going to see the movie of Les Miserables, I'm packing tissues.

12/21/12
World didn't end, huh. How about that.

I'm so glad I paid off my Visa bill, since I got my car registration/license tax notice in the mail - that drives me nuts about Arizona, it's an arm and a leg to renew it.

So the NRA says the solution to gun violence is to have MORE guns out there - what are they smoking? Irritated beyond belief.

12/19/12
Off to Vegas. If the Mayans were right, and the world ends on Friday, it's been lovely knowing you all.

12/16/12
Well, I guess since Mom was kind enough to pick up a pair of tickets for the Carousel concert at Avery Fisher Hall in Feb (starring Nathan Gunn and Kelli O'Hara!), the least I can do is fly home to see it. Even tho it means NYC in the winter. I guess, somehow, I'll survive.

Happy holidays to me! In the mail was a check from Bank of America labeled "escrow overage," for enough to pay off my Visa bill and then some! Who knew?!

Taking Mimi back to the vet tomorrow morning, for an antibiotics shot for her UTI. I'm also switching back to the oral thyroid med (we've been doing the transdermal ear one for three months with no improvement). Hopefully she'll let me chase her down to give it twice a day. She's gotten so skinny.

12/14/12
And happy birthday, Jay - on a horrible day with that shooting in Connecticut. I have no words.

TCM showed three film versions of Les Miserables last night. I had to DVR the last one to watch today, it being five hours long and in French, and I'm so glad I did - I like it the best of the three. It's the most faithful to the book and has the characters really fleshed out. It also matches what I had in my head visually (well, maybe not the black and white part). So yes, loving it.

12/13/12
Happy birthday, Irene!

Today's agenda: laundry, making pasta salad, making taco casserole (I'll do that tonight), sweeping up cat litter throughout the house, getting ready for Happy Hour with the birthday girl (we're going to O.H.S.O. Brewery, and they have fish tacos on the menu, so I know what I'm getting), and then I will probably crash and burn, since tomorrow is also a busy day, starting with Mimi's vet appt at 8.30am (to check her thyroid level).

12/12/12
12! 12! 12! I'm watching the concert for Hurriane Sandy relief, which is pretty amazing.

12/11/12
Kevin Youkilis to the Yankees? I just threw up.

12/8/12
Happy Hanukah!

And happy birthday, Tesse, and belated birthday Michael. I miss having my friends so close.

So glad Eve is home from the hospital - I'm hoping her docs can figure out what caused the stroke.

12/7/12
Today was IKEA's holiday Julbord buffet: meatballs and lingonberries, potatoes, salad, many different herring, gravlax, tuna (right off the fish!), overly-sweet desserts, little potato tarts, cucumber salad... all you can eat. For ten bucks. And while I didn't *need* anything, I picked up a new duvet cover and some non-stick carpet padding, which I've wanted to get for a while now.

And after dinner, Irene and I went to downtown Glendale for "Glendale Glitters," their million-light Christmas display in the park. I thought it was just lights - but on Fridays and Saturdays they also have a food court, street-fair booths etc, it was really nice to walk around. A little chilly tho, I think it was 63 or 64 out. Oh, and they had a "snow field, which was filled with some kind of shaved ice. Very funny.

12/6/12
The lights! They are up! The ladder was a wee bit rickety, but it was tall enough to reach my roof, which is what was important. The view from my view is lovely. And the lights - they mean it when they say, "only hook two sets together, or you will blow out the fuses in all three strings of lights, causing you much puzzlement and changing of fuses, plus you'll have to go back to Target to get another outdoor extension cord." I swear, that's what the package says, and they mean it. Lights look great, tho.

Then, in a burst of energy, I did all of my holiday cards, too.

Treated myself to lunch at Ground Control downtown, since I had a Groupon to use, and then went to the post office and the grocery store. And now I can't spend a penny until next payday, since I am broke as all get-out.

12/5/12
I visited Eve from afar (by sending Mom to visit). No idea what caused the clot, but she's up and moving around, the biggest deficit is with speech.

I spent the last part of my shift last night so tired, wanting to get home and go to bed. So what happened? I got home and couldn't sleep. I took a bath, watched some TV, read some of my current book, and finally passed out around noon.

Borrowed Chris and Staycie's extension ladder. I am wisely waiting until tomorrow when it's light out to put up my holiday lights. Not that putting up an extension ladder on a crushed rock surface in the dark isn't a wise move, but... so many houses in Verrado (and all over, actually) have their lights up, and it's so pretty to drive around and just look at them.

12/4/12
Well shit, I didn't want to wake up to the news that Eve had some kind of small stroke over the weekend. Mark said she has no major physical deficits but a bit of expressive aphasia. Am waiting to hear back what hospital she's at (in NJ) so I can send in the cavalry (Mom) to get more info.

12/3/12
The pie is so good. I have been eating it for just about every meal. I'm going to make another one for our night shift potluck holiday thing at work.

12/1/12
I am 38 years old, and last night, I made my first-ever apple pie. Aunt Linda sent me the top-secret (ha) recipe she used for the Thanksgiving pie, and I made it with a store-bought crust. SO GOOD. I will be eating it all weekend. Maybe I'll share a little with my coworkers. Maybe.

My tree is up, my menorah is up, and the four tiny stockings for the kitties are hung by the fireplace. I'm going to borrow cousin Chris's ladder next week to put up my outdoor lights (my ladder is too short to reach the eaves).
