8/28/13
I had to turn down job offer #1, they wanted someone to start on Sept. 9th, and I can't until the 18th. They were firm on that, so that isn't going to work out at this time. Interviewed at another place that I like, for an overnight subacute unit, they'll make a decision next week. In the meantime, I am going to have a beer and get ready for my party (fiesta!) tomorrow.

8/23/13
It's 90 out, but gray and nearly rainy, so it feels like 70. I went for a walk for 45 min around Verrado this morning, and then trimmed my tree and rose vines so they're not going crazy. And now, I think I will have lunch and take a nap.

Confirmed with soon-to-be-former-fulltime-job that I'll be able to pick up shifts PRN (as needed). The HR woman is out until Tuesday, so I'll call then to figure out what kind of exit paperwork I need to do, and to confirm my last fulltime day.

Got a call from another facility where I sent my resume, interview next week.

Happy Friday.

The interview went well, I think. I would love to work there. I emailed a thank-you, now waiting to hear back.

I'm going to have a "Belated Housewarming and Changing of Jobs" party next Thursday evening. I went out to buy chips and salsa and soda and wine and beer and paper plates and stuff. It'll be fun to have my soon-to-be-former coworkers over to just hang out.

Was going to see Rent at the Phoenix Theatre tonight, but with the work stuff and the interview and all, I didn't sleep great, so I exchanged my ticket for next Wednesday. Benefits of being a subscriber!

8/21/13
I quit my job. I got fed up and quit. Not like it's an instant thing - I gave four weeks notice, and offered to stay on "PRN" - per diem. I have an interview tomorrow and have a few resumes out already.

As Billy Bigelow said (paraphrased), "When I'm worried about something, I have a beer." Julie: "What're you worried about?" "How I'm gonna pay for the beer."

8/16/13
Mom gave me a LUSH gift card for my birthday. Today I finally made it over to Scottsdale to go to the LUSH store (sure, I could shop online, but the store just smells so damn good). I stocked on bath bombes and some shower gel, and left enough on the gift card that I can go back when I run out of tea tree toner water (my absolute favorite LUSH thing).

And then I went by the Phoenix Art Museum to see the video game art exhibit, which was interesting, but since video games aren't really my thing... eh. Still, it was a nice blast from the past to see the Atari graphics, which were high tech when I was a kid.

8/15/13
I'm still here - just working all weekend. I stayed up yesterday after work, and therefore got up at 7am this morning. I did the exciting errand of replacing the AC filters. And I picked up new catnip mice for the kittens, since they either have a secret stash of the existing catnip mice, or they're eating them. I can never seem to find them. Exciting plan for the rest of my day off? Watching baseball, reading, and maybe cooking something.

I decided not to renew my DBacks season tickets for next year. I just don't use enough of the tickets to justify spending the money on a 28-game package. I'll splurge on good single game tix when I feel like going.

8/9/13
The rest of the week has gotten better. Lots of snuggling of Pippin, Claire and Toby, who seem oblivious to Mimi's absence.

8/6/13
Took off last night and tonight from work. I'm just not in any shape to deal with people. I booked a spa day for Thursday evening, my muscles could use some pampering, and my skin is a mess from crying and not taking care of it this week, so I'm doing a facial, too.

8/5/13
RIP Mimi, my traveling cat. She'd lost so much weight, and the thyroid medicine didn't work. I took her right after work to the vet, and could barely get the words out. They took such good care of her today (as always). Mimi lived with me since she was a few weeks old - on 9th St, 29th St, Amsterdam Ave, Gold St, in Matawan (NJ), in Williamstown (MA), and in Peoria and Buckeye (AZ). She was almost seventeen.

Rest in peace, Mimibaby.

8/2/13
I have found my happy place. I decamped up to Oak Creek (just north of Sedona) for two nights, and stayed at the Oak Creek Terrace. It was exactly what I wanted - surrounded by mountains, away from the town, a cozy room with a fireplace, right on the creek where I soaked my feet, comfy patio chairs to nap on, and twenty degrees cooler than Phoenix. Two hours door to door. I did nothing but drive around, and curl up and read. I know I'll be going back in the fall and winter, for sure.

It's as close to camping as I care to get.

Have already made a reservation to go back in October.
