I am so looking forward to having the next week off. Mom's coming out tomorrow through Sunday, can't wait.

The kittens have been released from their collars and their isolation in my room. Their paws are nicely healed up, they have another day or two of antibiotics, and I picked up another few days worth of pain meds to keep them comfy.

Irene and I went to Scottsdale on the quest for the Orange Blossom beer that we had in Sedona. The lady in Sedona said to check out the Papago Brewery, since that's where they make it. So we went there, and the bartender said alas, they were all out, and they don't get their deliveries until Tuesday. Bummer. But - and this would never happen back east - he told us three other places that have it on tap. Voila. We found it. We drank it. It was good. I wish someone would bottle it.

Hey, gun control! I would say that I can't believe there was a shooting outside the Empire State Building, but I am not surprised at all.

And apparently work can't "retro pay" the weekend differential, which is kind of lousy. Guess I'll start saving from now on so I can get the yard done.

Irene and I did some shopping nonetheless, at Ross Dress for Less, World Market (where I found the table and two chairs to go outside once the yard is done, at 75% off!), Target, BevMo and the sushi place. Now we are full and all shopped out.

The kittens are home, with their little alien-being collars. They've got their meds ready to go and are safely ensconced in my room with the door closed. Our work meeting was canceled today, so I was able to get them earlier than I expected. Also got my nails done and my hair trimmed.

Oh and the vet said they make the thyroid med (that I stopped giving Mimi because she would run and hide and be scared) in a topical form that gets rubbed into her ear twice a day. She called it in to the animal pharmacy, and they should be sending along. We'll try it, and I hope she tolerates it. Mimi definitely gained weight on the med before, and she's lost it again since stopping.

Irene's back in Phoenix - she's staying with me until she figures out where she wants to settle. It's so nice to have company, who also escaped the east coast. We'll have our own little ex-pat community here. My cousin Chris, who's a mechanic, is going to go car shopping with her.

Looking forward to my check being direct-deposited tonight, to see if the fantastic extra cash is included. I hope that after taxes, it's enough to get the yard done. If not, the extra bit each paycheck will go into my savings account until I have enough saved. I've been clipping pictures from magazines and the internet for yard ideas.

The kittens survived their declaw day. I took them this morning after work, and the vet called around 11am to say that all went well. They'll stay overnight, and come back tomorrow with antibiotics and pain meds. Had to get special cat litter, too, that isn't made of clay. I'm going to seclude them in my room with their special litter so they can relax and not run around the house.

8/21/12
Hasn't been much going on lately, just busy at work. My spare time has been spent madly cleaning the house for Irene coming tomorrow and Mom coming next week.

Part of that paragraph is a lie.

The kittens are going to the v-e-t tomorrow to get declawed. They'll stay overnight. I'm sure Mimi and Pippin will be delighted.

8/16/12
Saturdays (mine at least) were made for sleeping all day. Until, of course, it's time to get up and go to work.

8/15/12
Best weekend at work ever - because I found out that I'm supposed to have gotten a weekend shift differential (and a pretty hefty one at that) for all of the weekends I've worked, and I haven't been getting it, who knows what glitch fouled that up. But corporate should be cutting me a lovely check to make up for the past 18 months worth of weekends, and that should let me get started on my backyard landscaping!

Taking advantage of a Groupon this week ("weekend," for me) to go stay downtown at the Clarendon Hotel, which may or may not be purchased by the company a friend works for. I'll be stay-cationing for two nights, treating myself to dinner, and lounging poolside. I also want to get down to the art museum (now that I have a membership) and maybe just explore more of downtown Phoenix.

I booked my trip home for Thanksgiving, I'm actually taking off the weekend before (hefty bonus be damned), so I can go up to MA to see Jen and Sean and Audrey and their new son, Tristan. Very happy about that! I also need to find a day to see Missy and Oliver and *their* new son, who I think will be named after Derek Jeter once he's born next month.

8/10/12
I have continued my NJ-IKEA habit of going "just to look around," and came home with napkins, a basket, wine glasses, a rug, and clothes hangers. And a frozen apple cake for when Mom comes out.

I also made the vet appointment for Claire and Toby to have their front claws taken out (and then I can put the curtains back in their proper position, instead of being balled up near the ceiling). That'll be on August 22nd, and they'll stay overnight. Perfect timing, since I can take them right after work and pick them up Thursday afternoon.

8/9/12
I made it to BevMo! - the gigantic beverage superstore about ten miles away. I want to branch out from Bud Light as my beer-of-choice, so I asked friends for recommendations. Today I shopped. Tomorrow I start taste-testing (as my purchases are cooling in the fridge as we speak).

Coworker Delia hosted a Pampered Chef dinner tonight, which was a lot of fun. And full of good food, too - the hostess did mojitos, beef fajitas and pineapple upside-down cake. It's a good thing I don't cook (much), I was able to resist buying one of everything. I did buy an apple peeler-corer-slicer, which I'd been looking for, perhaps one day I'll attempt Aunt Linda's apple pie.

Sad to report that Tesse's uncle fell and has a hairline fracture in his hip, so she's postponed her Arizona trip for a few weeks.

8/6/12
Wow, six months already in my own house.

8/3/12
Went to the spa for a facial. Now I smell like cinnamon, almonds and peppermint. Who said it isn't the holidays? And then I went to the chiropractor to get my shoulder re-aligned and my joints cracked. Life is good.

8/1/12
Only 146 more shopping days til Christmas.

Just sayin'.

The house next door is being built - today they're hammering and screwing the frames for the walls together. I'm glad my bedroom is on the other side of my house, so I can get some sleep. Working an overtime shift tonight, which is good, since I need to buy 1) gardening stuff (ha), 2) plane ticket home for Thanksgiving, and 3) kitty-declawing.

The kittens continue to chase their own tails, as well as Pippin's and Mimi's. This does not go over well with Pippin and Mimi, but they'll get over it. Can't believe how big Claire and Toby have gotten!

Irene flew back to NY to pack and move right back to AZ - she stashed some stuff in my spare closet. I want all the rest of my friends to move out, too. Seriously - no snow.
